Indore to create history by hosting 19th Indian Television Academy Awards.
Indore has always fascinated the people from different parts of the country, be it the unique culture, the local dialect, its fast-paced development and of course its world-famous food. After acing in the fields of industry, business, and technology, Indore is now on its way to lure the entertainment industry towards it.
For the first time in the history of entertainment awards, the Indian Television Academy Awards 2019 are coming out of Mumbai and being held in Indore. ITA awards, first hosted in 2001, is an annual event organized by the Indian Television Academy for honoring excellence in different fields of Indian television. The official announcement was first made on 21st September 2019 in a press conference held in hotel RaddissonBlu, Indore. The awards will be held at Nehru Stadium on 10th November 2019 in the presence of Madhya Pradesh’s chief minister Kamalnath. Indian Television Academy, who organizes the awards, was first found by Sashi & Anu Ranjan in 2001, “A ground-breaking & significant movement which brought together and galvanized the entire TV workforce under one umbrella.”, as quoted by Anu Ranjan herself. Present in the press conference, Shashi Ranjan, convenor of the ITA awards said in his interview, “This is the first award in the country that is leaving Mumbai for another city, and we thank MP’s chief minister for making that possible for us.” Mr. Kamalnath has been a part of the ITA awards before, in 2007, and is well versed with its workings. Anu Ranjan, organizer of ITA praised Indore, saying, “there are so many artists and so much to show here.” Then she added, “TV has a unique connection with the people of the country, and we are thrilled to bring this show to the heart of MP.” State Public Relations Minister PC Sharma who was present at the press conference of ITA, said, “Thanks to the Chief Minister of the state, because of whom this event is going to be held in Indore, for the first time outside Mumbai. And I am sure these kinds of events help in promoting the culture of the state.”
The awards not only focus on the daily soap dramas of television but also awards news as well as reality TV programs. This year, a new segment of awards are announced by the organizers, in the field of web series, a fast-growing popular genre of entertainment. From the top Jury nominations announced by the ITA, web series like Mirzapur, Made in Heaven, Four More Shots Please!,Criminal Justice and Apaharan are some of the top names nominated this year.
The Indian Television Academy Awards shall be creating history by changing the norms and successfully showcasing all that the city of Indore has to offer. Indore has thrice been awarded as the cleanest city of India. With easy air connectivity, advanced hospitality as well as titled to be mini Mumbai, Indore might’ve been the most obvious choice for this change. Another question that this event arises is that whether the whispers of a mini film city being established in Indore shall finally gain authenticity or not.
