Indore's Red Church: Giving The Merry Christmas Vibes All Along!
Christmas is legit one of the best things about winters, right? We all wait year-long for the merry vibes of Christmas to arrive. Cute sparkles, colorful lights, red and green glitters, and Santa giving out candies everywhere, this is what this beautiful festival is all about. If you are from Indore, you have surely visited the Red Church of the city at least once on Christmas. But if you haven’t yet, you just can’t miss it this time. Why? Because the Red Church is one of the most beautiful churches in the city and attracts a lot of people during any time of the year. The Red Church is the oldest Catholic Church in the city, being 128 years old. The reason this church is called the red church is that the original color of this church was red.
However, the original 128-year old building wasn’t able to accommodate all the devotees when their number started increasing. And so, another building in the same campus was built around 50 years ago with a larger space to facilitate the devotees. Today, prayers are offered in both churches. Since the original church s called the Red Church, people know both the buildings by this name. Also known as the St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral, this church has one of the most beautiful buildings with gorgeous gothic architecture. One of its beautiful features is the paintings and pictures on its altar. These breath-taking paintings majorly depict the life of Jesus Christ.
We all know how pilgrimage centers are mostly very active when it comes to charity. And, so is the Red Church of Indore. Offering charity for the betterment of society is the church’s top priority. For this, the church has a whole different department that takes part in charities through IDSS- Indore Diocese Social Service Society. One of the major contributions of this church is the development of the St. Raphael’s School for girls in the city. The congregation of this church helped in building the St. Raphael’s School in the 1930s.
One of the most beautiful Christmas celebrations can be witnessed here in the winter. Mid-night celebrations, a beautiful crib, and a great crowd of devotees- all this together creates the perfect Christmas vibe one might need during the holidays. Making a Christmas Crib is a tradition in the community for decades. The beautiful crib of Christmas shows the birth of Jesus Christ in a cowshed along with Mother Mary. The mid-night celebrations and prayers gather a lot of devotees in the church every year on Christmas and New Year. However, these mid-night celebrations won’t be a part this year, observing the risk of Covid-19 around the city. Also, offering prayers on the night of Christmas won’t be allowed. The people who wish to offer prayers on the night of Christmas can visit the church the day after, that is, 26 December 2021.
So, visiting the Red Church this Christmas has to be on your to-do list. This church is located in the area of Navlakha, Indore. You can easily get to this location on your vehicle as well as using public transport and can visit many other famous places of Indore near this church like the Lal Bagh Palace. Visiting the Red Church on Christmas will surely bring you a sense of internal peace and will make your Christmas holidays worthwhile.
