Indore Lok Sabha Constituency is one of the important constituency in 29 Lok Sabha constituencies of Madhya Pradesh. Indore will cast its vote in the last phase of general election 2019 on May 19 and counting will be held on May 23.
Indore covers eight assemblies areas– Indore-1, Indore-2, Indore-3, Indore-4, Indore-5, Rau, Sanwer, and Depalpur.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to whom Indore calls by the name of ‘Tai’ of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – won the election with a huge margin of over 4.66 lakh votes. She had defeated Satyanarayan Patel of the Indian National Congress (INC).
Sumitra Mahajan had secured 854972 votes while Patel got 388071 votes. The voting percentage in the 2014 General Election was 62.26 percent across 2206 polling stations of Indore constituency.
Some of the other candidates who contested 2014 General Election were Anil Trivedi of the Aam Aadmi Party and Dharamdas Ahirwar of the Bahujan Samaj Party and few other independent candidates.
Indore Lok Sabha seat has been the stronghold of Sumitra Mahajan, who has been a Member of Parliament from the Constituency since the year 1989. In the year 2009, Sumitra Mahajan of the BJP managed to secure her winning position by getting over 11 thousand votes against Satyanarayan Patel of the INC. While Mahajan got 388662 seats, Patel secured 377182 seats.
