Little Yogis: Kids-friendly Yoga Workshop for a Healthier Generation!

Yoga gives kids the opportunity to create a healthier, calmer, and happier life for themselves. It is easier to form healthy habits at an earlier age than trying to modify them later, so starting yoga earlier in life will increase their chances of adopting it as a permanent activity over time. 8 years is an ideal age for kids to be introduced to yoga. Listed below are a few of the many benefits of yoga for kids.

1. Physical activity
Today’s technology-driven lifestyle is more sedentary & this generation has reduced immunity. It is therefore very important to encourage physical activity. Yoga is a very easily adaptable activity for children. Not every child can be good at active sports but yoga can be practiced by all kinds of children, even those who dislike sports & outdoor activities.

2. Calms the mind
Yoga covers both mental & physical components. While performing various yoga postures, children will start by focusing only on the physical aspects but over time and almost in an unconscious manner, yoga will have a calming and relaxing effect over their minds as well.

3. Increases concentration
While practicing yoga, children place their eyes on different parts of the body in order to achieve any asana. This increases concentration and develops the capacity of the brain to focus. This will naturally improve the academic performance of the child & provide clarity of mind.

4. Proper breathing
Another beneficial “side effect” of yoga for kids is the development of their lungs and proper breathing. As adults, we have somehow got disconnected from our natural physicality. In our busy lives, we almost forget to connect with our breath. Whereas children do not need to be instructed on how to breathe, they find the natural rhythm while doing the asanas. With yogic breathing, the lungs increase their oxygen intake and children tend to keep this capacity throughout life.

5. Self-confidence
Yoga helps children strengthen their willpower. When they learn the different asanas and try to perfect them with regular practice, they find that nothing is impossible and that everything can be achieved with continuous efforts. In this process, children learn to be more patient in their expectations and become more confident about themselves.

About the workshop
