Education Talk: New Guidelines released by UGC for University final semester exams.

In a recent announcement made by the Human resource development minister Manish Pokhriyal, a new set of guidelines have been issued by the UGC for universities organizing exams for the final semester students. While renouncing any previous news regarding the cancellation of exams, the UGC has announced that exams will eventually be held for the final semester students, with perhaps the date being extended till the end of September. The UGC also provided universities with options to either conduct exams online or offline as per their convenience. This has been a huge relief for the students who were dissatisfied with the previous announcement of the universities providing average scored results for the final semester students based on their previous performances. The important pointers that were mentioned in the guidelines are as follows:

Keeping in mind the current scenario of the country amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, it is very important to safeguard the rules of well being, security, honest, and equal alternative for college students. Similarly, it is extremely essential to make sure tutorial credibility, professional alternatives, and future progress of scholars globally remain prolific.

The terminal semester(s)/ last 12 months (s) examinations be carried out by the schools/ establishments by the tip of September, 2020 in offline (pen & paper)/ on-line/ blended (on-line + offline) mode as per feasibility and suitability.

In case a scholar of the terminal semester/ last 12 months is unable to be present within the examination carried out by the College for by any means, the rationale (s)/ paper (s), which can be carried out by the college as and when possible, shall so that the scholar isn’t put to any inconvenience/ drawback. The above provision can be relevant just for the present tutorial session 2019-20 as a one-time measure.

The rules concerning intermediate semester/ 12 months examination, as notified on April 29, 200 will stay unchanged.

Exams will be compulsory for students with a backlog. Such students can take the exam either online or offline.

It is important to understand that the previous guidelines issued by the UGC on 29th April 2020 remain unchanged for the intermediate semesters, only the terms for the final semester has been changed. The UGC has further added that any other notices regarding the information on exams and other necessary information related to admission and academic calendar.
