Indore Airport ready for take-off after domestic air travel ban is lifted by Aviation Ministry.

The Aviation Ministry of India announced on 20th May 2020 that the domestic flights shall resume after the long air travel ban was lifted. The Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh tweeted on Wednesday, “Domestic civil aviation operations will recommence in a calibrated manner from Monday 25th May 2020. All airports & air carriers are being informed to be ready for operations from 25th May. SOPs for passenger movement are also being separately issued.” After this announcement the Indore Airport Authorities are all set to welcome passengers under the COVID-19 duress with all necessary arrangements made for the health safety of the passengers and the staff. Aramya Sanyal the Airport Director issued a statement where she said that numerous measures have already been taken to make sure that the travels are as safe as possible. It is kept in mind that the entire journey throughout the airport has to be kept contactless. Keeping this in mind a number of steps are taken, which include:

  • All the areas of the airport including the Departure/Arrival, Security Check areas, Boarding points, waiting for lounges, etc. are made sure to be regularly sanitized to prevent the transmission of the virus.
  • To adhere to the Social Distancing norms, the entire airport has been put up with yellow markers to ensure that people maintain a one-meter distance amongst them. Not only the queues but also regular passageways and elevators have been demarcated for maximum safety.
  • It is made mandatory for all airport authorities, especially the staff that comes in close proximity of the passengers, to wear the PPE Kit along with a three-layered mask all of which are made available by the government.
  • The counters in the airports are installed with glass shields to ensure that distance is maintained between the staff and the passengers.
  • After the departure of passengers all tunnels, gates, and terminals are religiously fumigated to remove any traces of the virus from the surfaces.
  • Hand sanitizers are made available at different points in the airport with foot pedal dispensers so that people do not have to make hand contact while using hand sanitizers.
  • The passengers are requested to cooperate with the authorities by filling up the self-declaration form upon arrival where they have to mention any past travel history they have along with notifying their health status and their contact details.
  • Passengers also have to compulsorily wear masks and gloves while traveling. Any visible symptoms in the passengers would get them to get COVID tested.
  • Passengers are requested to preferably have web check-ins. COVID screenings are done after reaching the conveyor belt to ensure maximum safety.
  • All the seating areas in the airport have the middle seats sealed with yellow tapes to ensure that the passengers maintain distance.
  • The shuttle bus that takes passengers from the departure terminal to the airplane shall also reduce their capacity to half to ensure distancing. Only 50 percent of the passengers shall be carried at one time.

All these measures would ensure that people can travel safely amongst the COVID-19 threat without possibly getting transmitted. Lockdowns have been extended for almost two months now and its time people slowly start to return to their daily lives despite the Coronavirus scare that would prevail until possible vaccines aren’t made. People have to learn to live alongside the virus, safeguarding themselves while going to high-risk public places.
