Indore’s traditional Anant Chaturdashi Tableau Procession is set to take place with several important rules and arrangements in place for participants and spectators. The tableau procession will begin at 6 PM from the DRP Line, with the Khajrana Ganesh Temple tableau leading the procession. This year, DJs will be completely prohibited, while each tableau will be allowed a maximum of two speakers.
The administration has also prescribed time limits for performances, restrictions on weapons and animals, and specific guidelines for vehicles and tableau dimensions.
The Story
The Anant Chaturdashi procession is one of Indore’s most prominent traditional public celebrations, bringing together decorated tableaux, akhadas, artists and large numbers of spectators along the historic route through the city.
According to the arrangements announced by the district administration, the procession will begin at 6 PM from the DRP Line. The first tableau will be that of Shri Khajrana Ganesh Temple.
It will be followed by tableaux associated with Shastri Corner Nav Yuvak Mandal, Indore Development Authority (IDA), Indore Municipal Corporation, Hope Textile, Kalyan Mill, Malwa Mill, Hukumchand Mill, Swadeshi Mill, Rajkumar Mill and Sputnik Tutorial Academy. No new tableau will be included in this year’s procession.
The procession will move from the mill area towards Mazdoor Maidan, Bhandari Mill Labour Camp, Devi Ahilya Marg, MG Road, Krishnapura, Nandlalpura, Jawahar Marg, Narsingh Bazaar Square, Sheetlamata Bazaar, Gorakund and Khajuri Bazaar before reaching Rajwada, after which it will return towards the respective mill areas.
DJ Ban and Sound Restrictions
One of the major changes this year is the complete ban on DJs during the procession. The administration has stated that the restriction is being implemented in accordance with court directions.
Tableaux will be permitted to use a maximum of two speakers. Organisers will therefore have to plan their sound arrangements within the prescribed limits.
Time Limits for Akhadas
Akhadas and tableaux will also have to follow the designated time limits while performing in front of the judging platforms.
If an akhada takes more time than permitted, negative marking and deduction of points will be applied. The objective is to prevent delays from accumulating and affecting the tableaux and participants following behind.
Weapons and Safety Rules
Participants in akhadas will not be allowed to carry sharp or dangerous weapons.
According to the administration’s instructions, khilafas may carry a sword only as a symbolic representation. If participants are found carrying items such as hockey sticks or other dangerous weapons, police will seize them.
Elephants and camels will also not be permitted as part of the procession. There will also be limits on the number of handcarts and other vehicles accompanying tableaux and akhadas.
Tableau and Stage Guidelines
The height of tableaux and width of stages have been required to remain within prescribed standards. These guidelines are intended to prevent obstruction of traffic and ensure that spectators can view the procession safely.
The administration has also encouraged traditional games and cultural performances, with better-performing akhadas to receive certificates along with cash awards.
