Indore Double Decor Flyover

⚡ The Gist

Indore’s first double-decker bridge on the Indore–Ujjain Road is nearing full operational capacity, with its second three-lane arm now ready to open for traffic.

Once both arms are operational, more than 75,000 vehicles travelling on this important corridor are expected to benefit. The project is particularly significant ahead of Simhastha, when traffic between Indore and Ujjain is expected to increase substantially.

The Story

The double-decker bridge at Lavkush Square has been developed to manage traffic movement on one of Indore’s busiest growth corridors. The bridge passes above the Metro alignment, creating a multi-level transportation structure designed to separate different modes of movement.

The first three-lane arm was opened for traffic around two months ago. The second three-lane arm has now been completed and is expected to be opened for traffic next week, subject to the necessary operational approval.

Construction work on the new arm has largely been completed. Asphalt work and electrical installations are finished, while final cleaning and painting work is underway. The new arm has also undergone a load test. Permission for traffic operations will be obtained from the Metro Rail authorities before it is opened for regular vehicle movement.

Once both arms are operational, traffic travelling towards Ujjain will be able to move more smoothly through the elevated corridor, reducing dependence on the junction-level road network below.

The project has been developed at a reported cost of around ₹300 crore by the Indore Development Authority and took approximately three-and-a-half years to complete.

One of the most notable features of the bridge is its height. Since the structure has been constructed above the Metro track, it reaches approximately 70 feet above ground level at its highest point.

The bridge is around one kilometre long, with its design incorporating the elevation required to cross over the Metro infrastructure. Its endpoint is near the Arvindo Hospital side, where the six-lane Indore–Ujjain Road is already available.

A service road has also been developed underneath the bridge, providing connectivity at the ground level while the elevated structure handles through-traffic.

The infrastructure will become particularly important during Simhastha, when large-scale movement between Indore and Ujjain is expected. The additional elevated capacity could help reduce pressure on the road network and provide a more direct movement corridor for vehicles travelling towards Ujjain.

The project also represents an important example of how multiple transport systems are being integrated into Indore’s expanding infrastructure network, with the Metro running between the bridge structures and road traffic moving above it.

🎙️ Indore Talk Take

The opening of the second arm completes an important phase of the Lavkush Square double-decker bridge project.

For commuters, the real benefit will not be the size or height of the structure, but whether it translates into shorter travel times, smoother traffic movement and fewer bottlenecks on the Indore–Ujjain corridor.

With Simhastha approaching, this infrastructure will face a major real-world test.

The bridge is ready. The next test is how effectively Indore uses it.
