Indore is ready to shield itself with the COVID-19 vaccines! Know everything about it.
As March 2021 marks one year since the SARS-CoV-2 virus created havoc in the world infecting a vast number of the population of the world and killing millions, it also marks the date of India’s successful campaign of vaccination against the same virus. In a year Indian scientists accomplished to develop not one but two vaccines, Covishield by Serum Institute of India and Covaxin by Bharat Biotech. The vaccination drive initiated on 16th January 2021 gives priority to the healthcare and frontline workers, followed by phase two in March for citizens who are 60 years plus, and then 45 years plus who suffer from comorbidities. As of 7 March, 2021 India has administered 2, 09, 89,010 vaccine doses across the country.
Registration for the Vaccine
To register yourself for the Coivd-19 vaccine, you can either visit www.selfregistration.cowin.gov.in or the MP online website or use apps like Aarogya Setu. The central government has also upgraded its digital platform Co-WIN.2.0 so that the beneficiaries can now self-register themselves. The registration process is easy enough, by uploading a picture of any of your photo IDs like an Aadhaar card, passport, license, etc. People with comorbidities need to get a certificate from medical health personnel to authenticate their illness. The registration process allots a time slot and a hospital, where you can go according to get your vaccination. The comorbidity eligibility certificate provided by the government mentions twenty illnesses for which a person aged above 45 could be eligible for getting vaccinated. The signed certificate with your ID proof should be present with you during the vaccination.
Comorbidities included for being eligible for the vaccine
The comorbidities that make a person eligible for vaccinations are listed below:
1. Heart Failure with hospital admission in the past year
2. Post Cardiac Transplant/Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD)
3. Significant Left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVEF <40%)
4. Moderate or Severe Valvular Heart Disease
5. Congenital heart disease with severe PAH or Idiopathic PAH
6. Coronary Artery Disease with past CABG/PTCA/MI AND Hypertension/Diabetes on treatment
7. Angina AND Hypertension/Diabetes on treatment
8. CT/MRI documented stroke AND Hypertension/Diabetes on treatment
9. Pulmonary Artery Hypertension AND Hypertension/Diabetes on treatment
10. Diabetes (> 10 years OR with complications) AND Hypertension on treatment
11. Kidney/ Liver/ Hematopoietic stem cell transplant: Recipient/On wait-list
12. End-Stage Kidney Disease on hemodialysis/ CAPD
13. Current prolonged use of oral corticosteroids/ immunosuppressant medications
14. Decompensated cirrhosis
15. Severe respiratory disease with hospitalizations in last two years/FEV1 <50%
16. Lymphoma/ Leukaemia/ Myeloma
17. Diagnosis of any solid cancer on or after 1st July 2020 OR currently on any cancer therapy
18. Sickle Cell Disease/ Bone marrow failure/ Aplastic Anemia/ Thalassemia Major
19. Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases/ HIV infection
20. Persons with disabilities due to Intellectual disabilities/ Muscular Dystrophy/ Acid attack with the involvement of respiratory system/ Persons with disabilities having high support needs/ Multiple disabilities including deaf-blindness.
Process of Getting Vaccinated
In Indore, major private and government hospitals are made centers of vaccination where you can get yourself vaccinated if you are eligible in the criteria. Where the government hospitals would let you get vaccinated for free, private hospitals would charge a nominal fee of Rs. 250 for the vaccine, 100 Rs. for service charges, and 150 for the vaccine itself. It is mandatory for everyone who comes to get vaccinated to follow all the Covid-19 safety protocols like wearing masks, maintaining social distancing and sanitizing hands, etc. Over the next six months, the vaccination drive will cover 300 million priority groups who are at higher risk of getting infected. These include 10 million health workers, 20 million frontline workers, and around 270 million persons above age 50 years and/or with co-morbidities. Out of the ten allotted vaccination centers in Indore, three are government establishments. The prominent centers include Government PC Sethi Hospital, Civil Hospital Mhow, Mahatma Gandhi Medical College, Aurobindo Medical College, Index Medical College, Choithram Hospital, Medicare Hospital. It is important to note that amongst the two available options of vaccines, you won’t be able to decide which vaccine shall be administered to you.
