Marothiya Bazaar: Indore’s largest market for wedding shopping and every other occasion.

Set amidst the busiest areas of Indore, Marothiya Bazaar has been a major shopping spot for almost a century for the Indoris. The bazaar has spread its arms over vast lanes of the area, with more than a thousand big and small shops scattered over nooks and crannies. Marothiya bazaar is a hotspot for reasonable, easily accessible items of daily and special use, bringing vast varieties for the customers in every possible price range for their convenience. Marothiya Bazaar has shops for every fathomable thing a person can need, from cosmetics to toiletries, groceries and spices, pickles and dried ready to fry eatables, to items used for Pooja and weddings and other big or small miscellaneous products that a person might need for any special occasion.

A hundred-year-old Marothiya bazaar was traditionally a grocer market with rows of shops selling traditional Indian spices, a wide range, and a variety of dry fruits and other household kitchen goods. Gradually the market expanded, with small businesses flourishing under the band of Marothiya and other major markets surrounding it expanding as well. Marothiya is taken from the traditional Malwi dialect which translates to Maro Thiya i.e. My Place, acknowledging all the shop owners who considered it their spot. Marothiya is surrounded by the buzzing jam- packed markets of Sarafa Bazaar, Saatha Bazaar, Bohra Bazaar, BajajKhana Chowk, Bartan Bazaar, etc, which is considered to be a major factor for the booming businesses in all these markets. This part of Indore is the hub of all shoppers, who can find every single item of need in one of these adjacent streets. Amongst the vast variety of stores that the team visited, there were a few that caught exceptional attention for their prominence, uniqueness, and popularity amongst the buyers.

Radha Kangan

Radha Kangan is a store that has been selling an eye-twinkling variety of bangles to Indoris for four generations now. The business was established by a woman who then passed it down to her son who now runs the store with his children. Radha Kangan is popular for the mind-bending variety of prices that it offers to suit all kinds and types of buyers. They have bangles ranging from 100/- to 10,000/- Rs. made of glass, Laak, Brass, Crystal, and Ship, etc. The store is now successfully running three branches across the city that is quite popular amongst the buyers.

Some important pointers while visiting Marothiya that are to be considered are firstly the need for parking, the lanes and streets are too narrow for a four-wheeler, and two-wheeler parking spaces are limited. Hence make sure that you park near the Bajajkhana chowk before entering the market preferably walking. And secondly, make sure that you have a proper list of items that you need to buy beforehand; because Marothiya is so big you might get lost in the jungle of shops and certainly miss out on one or two items that you would’ve wanted to buy.

Marothiya Bazaar’s greatest USP is that it has so many kinds of stores that if a person is determined enough, they can complete their entire wedding shopping in one single day here!

The visit to these shops and stores by Indore talk made a compelling conclusion that as the customers are leading towards progressive marketing; they prefer to do shopping from the comfort of their homes. But another fact that is undeniably true is that the reasonable rates and vast variety offered in the shops at Marothiya are incomparable, hence these shop owners have expressed their desire to take their business online and make it reachable to an even larger customer base. Indore Talk’s Market Talk sponsor Direct app is one such unique concept where local vendors are being connected with customers who can order whatever they want from any local shop in the city and get it delivered to the customer hassle-free. As much as it is a portal for the shoppers to buy things, it is also a place for shopkeepers to be easily accessible to even more customers, garnering profits and increased sales.
