Bio CNG Plant, Indore

How Does the Plant Operate?

As we all know, organic waste is required to make Bio CNG gas. And, Indore is the only city in the country where source segregation is done that is, the waste is segregated right when collected from the households. So, this makes it easy for the team of this CNG plant to collect organic waste rapidly. The IMC transfers around 500 to 550 tons of organic waste in packed containers to the plant and then the process of converting it into CNG begins.

  • The process of Pre-treatment is the very first step in this process. This treatment converts waste into slurry form and makes it digestible for further processes. To make this possible & efficient at such a huge level, machinery and equipment used here are bought from European countries which are fully automatic.
  • This slurry waste is then transferred for the process of Pre-digestion & Main-digestion where it is eventually converted into Bio Gas. This process takes almost 25-30 days to complete.
  • Biogas is the raw material required to make Bio CNG gas. This biogas contains 55-60% of methane gas and this percentage needs to be around 90% to make it Bio CNG gas. So, upgrading, purifying, & cleaning of this biogas is done to increase the percentage of methane gas, and then, it is finally converted into Bio CNG gas.

Once the process is done, CNG Gas is packed into small containers and cylinders and transferred to various stations. With 500 tons of organic waste, 17,000 to 18,000 kg of CNG Gas is produced. Around 50% of this gas is supplied to the IMC. The premises of this plant also have a dispensing station with the capacity of filling up around 100 buses with CNG Gas.

What are the Benefits?

This completely eco-friendly project has a lot of benefits for the city. Around 16 to 17,000 liters of petrol or diesel will be saved every day. This project will also help decrease the CO2 emission and eventually decrease the pollution of the city. The commercial operations have been started in the plant from 19th February 2022 after its official inauguration. Soon, this gas will also be provided to the common people of the city. If gone well, this initiative will benefit us as well as our city in so many good ways.
