Bleed with Pride: A Conversation Every Girl Deserves
The Initiative
For generations, menstruation has been treated as a subject to be whispered about rather than understood. Yet, for millions of girls, it marks an important milestone in their journey towards womanhood.
Recognising the need to replace silence with awareness, Support Wings organised “Bleed with Pride,” a menstrual health awareness workshop for school girls in Indore. The initiative created a safe, supportive, and judgement-free space where young girls could openly learn about menstruation, menstrual hygiene, and the importance of embracing periods as a natural part of life.
Creating Awareness, Building Confidence
The workshop went beyond explaining biology. Through interactive sessions, open conversations, and myth-busting discussions, volunteers encouraged students to ask questions without hesitation. From menstrual hygiene practices to addressing common misconceptions, the focus was on ensuring that every participant left with greater knowledge, confidence, and dignity.
By normalising these conversations early, initiatives like Bleed with Pride help young girls make informed choices about their health while reducing the fear and stigma that often surround menstruation.
A Voice for Change
Reflecting on the initiative, Rajlaxmi Banik, Director of Support Wings, shared,
“When girls are empowered with the right knowledge, they are empowered with confidence. ‘Bleed with Pride’ is a step towards normalising conversations around menstrual health.”
Her words capture a simple but powerful truth: education is one of the strongest tools for empowerment.
Why It Matters
Menstrual health is not just a health issue, it is an issue of education, confidence, dignity, and equality.
When girls understand their bodies without fear or shame, they are more likely to stay in school, participate confidently in daily life, and grow into informed, self-assured women. Communities that encourage open conversations about menstrual health contribute to healthier futures for everyone.
Why VAMA Celebrates This Initiative
