Being a WhatsApp spam message, you may have noticed, the message does not say much about the link attached. But, to check the content and make our fans aware we have opened the link which demands the following series of action:

• First, you are redirected to Facebook like page which says Big Billion Days, Spin The Lucky Wheel!

• Then, you are asked to play a game like ‘Spin a Wheel’ where you can claim a prize depending on where the wheel’s pointer stops

• After you spin the wheel, let’s say you win a smartphone. Now, to claim that prize, you are asked to share it to 5 or more friends on WhatsApp about winning the prize

• Once you do this, you are asked to install an app as the last step before you can claim your prize

• You install the app but nothing happens – you never receive your gift

So, Hua kya yahan?
As this was a spam message and the purpose of this message was just to take you to a fake website and make you install unwanted apps. By doing so, the scammer earns some money. And because you shared the message with your friends, who might do exactly what you did, you have helped the scam spread to more people – which means more money for the scammer. And no, no one receives any gift because there wasn’t any.

What’s the Jhol?
Clicking such types of spam links received on WhatsApp, Messenger or by any other means just takes you to a compromised web page which silently drops a virus in your phone. This virus, later on, can be used to steal your personal and confidential information such as phonebook contacts, emails, messages, bank account details, etc. and at the worst, it can hack your phone also.

To Bhiya Kya Sikha Humney?
As many festivals are round the corner, it is common for us to receive messages about online offers and discounts. While availing such offers, stay alert and informed about cyber/ online scams such as the one we described above. Remember the Golden Rule – Never click on links in messages that sound exciting, promotional, strange or unusual. Whenever you receive such a message of this nature, inquire about it with the sender and then take appropriate action. As a precautionary measure, you can secure your phone with a reliable mobile antivirus app.

Team Indore Talk alerts and request you that if you have received such message or might receive one in the future, Don’t forward it ahead.
