With a 56 Days countdown Indore will see it’s pride in a ‘Smart Chhappan Dukan’.

A total of 56 days, that’s the promised deadline to transform Indore’s most popular food destination Chhappan Dukan into a smart Food Street. The entire makeover is estimated to cost around 4 crore rupees. The project is undertaken by the Indore Smart City Development Limited and a timer is installed in the area to keep a track of the deadline. This project is the first of its kind in Madhya Pradesh, to have a timer installed for the purpose of finishing off the work on time. Here are some major highlights of the ChhappanDukan Smart Food Street Makeover Project.

• ChappanDukan to be converted into a No-Vehicle Zone

Vehicles wouldn’t be allowed entry from the MG road point to Chandni Chowk, the beginning and endpoints of the street. As an alternative, parking spaces in Swami Vivekananda School and the garden near GadiAdda have been allotted until mechanized parking facility would be made, tender for this has been released. The parking facility is intended to have space for 200 two-wheelers and 80 four-wheelers.

• Decorative Pavements to increase attraction

The pavements of the entire street would have colorful and decorative paver blocks which would give the whole area a new look and make it extremely pleasant and attractive for the visitors to sit, eat and enjoy.

• New Foot-over Bridge planned

A foot-over bridge between Dolphin Hospital and R S Bhandari Marg area has been planned to provide connectivity as the vehicles are being restricted. This would help in managing the crowd and provide easy accessibility.

• Other updates in the area

The shops would all be provided a façade to look more systematic, the entire street would have decorative LED lightings and installation of plantations and greenery would be made a priority. Apart from this canopies and small water bodies are being designed to give it a more beautiful outlook.

• Seating to accommodate the foodies

To make sure that the food eating experience of the visitors is a comfortably pleasant one, chairs and seats are being installed in small distances for people to sit and relax whilst enjoying their food.

• Water dispensers to reduce the usage of plastic bottles

Water dispensers are being planned to be installed in the entire street for easy access to people. The main goal is for people to avoid buying plastic-packaged bottles and reduce pollution.

• Open Air Theatre

An entirely innovative and smart idea of building an open-air theatre in the area has been proposed. This would provide entertainment for the visitors and opportunities for talents to showcase themselves at a public platform, which is amazing. Public events and gatherings could also be hosted in here and would prove to be a hotspot for the crowd to spend their time.

The entire development project has been taken up by a private company and the design of the plan has been done with a purpose that people could spend one to two hours here, enjoying and leisurely eating. ChhappanDukan has been the only food street in the country that is not accidental and has been designed that way, something you most definitely can only see in Indore! ChhappanDukan has been accredited as the second FSSAI certified clean food hub of the country and the city administration is soon planning to launch an app for Chhappan Dukan providing information on the food shops and items available, with features like ratings for the users in areas like hygiene, taste, and ambiance. The app will also provide information to the people about the famous personalities that visited the food street and the history behind the popularity of the place.

All in all Chhappan Dukan’s makeover has huge potential to increase the contribution to the yearly turnover of the city. Currently, this small Street provides 40% of the 5000 crores annual turnover from the food markets in the city. The Indoris are patiently waiting for this project to get completed and their beloved ChhappanDukanto gets a whole new look.
