⚡ The Gist
Indore’s iconic Sarafa Bazaar is all set to embrace the colours of Rajasthan this Diwali. Continuing a nearly 100-year-old tradition, the historic jewellery market is getting a festive makeover featuring colourful Rajasthani five-coloured umbrellas, floral decorations and modern lighting.
The special decorations remain in place from Dhanteras to Bhai Dooj, with carpets laid across the market streets for five days. Other prominent markets, including Bartan Bazaar and MT Cloth Market, are also preparing distinctive traditional decorations.
The Story
Diwali brings a unique festive charm to Indore’s traditional markets, and Sarafa Bazaar remains one of the city’s most recognisable celebration destinations. This year, the market’s decorations take inspiration from Rajasthani culture, combining vibrant five-coloured umbrellas, flowers and illuminated installations to create a distinctive festive atmosphere.
The preparations also include carpets covering the market streets for five days, adding to the grand festive experience for shoppers and visitors.
Special arrangements are being made for Dhanteras, when shops in Sarafa Bazaar open as early as 6 AM and remain operational until approximately 2 AM. The extended business hours allow customers more time for festive shopping.
For safety and crowd management, fireworks are prohibited inside the market. Additionally, the popular Sarafa Chaat and street-food market remains closed on November 6, 7 and 8.
The festive makeover extends beyond Sarafa. In Bartan Bazaar, decorative torans made from brass and copper utensils add a traditional touch. Meanwhile, MT Cloth Market features carpets and brass lamps as part of its Diwali decorations.
Together, these preparations bring the city’s historic commercial areas alive, blending traditional craftsmanship, festive lighting and the vibrant shopping culture that defines Diwali in Indore.
