⏱️ 2-Minute Read | Mindful Living by Indore Talk
Have you ever picked up your phone without a reason?
Not because someone called.
Not because you needed information.
But simply because there was… nothing else to do.
A few minutes later, you’ve watched dozens of reels, liked a few posts, and forgotten why you opened the app in the first place.
The question isn’t “Why do we scroll?”
The real question is:
“What are we trying to escape?”
Sometimes, we don’t scroll because we’re interested.
We scroll because we’re uncomfortable.
Uncomfortable with boredom.
With silence.
With loneliness.
With uncertainty.
Or simply with being alone with our own thoughts.
Social media offers an instant escape. Every swipe promises something new a laugh, a surprise, a distraction, a burst of excitement. For a few moments, it fills the space inside us.
But when the screen turns off, that space often returns.
That’s because distraction is not the same as fulfillment.
An empty mind doesn’t need more content.
It often needs more connection.
Connection with family.
With friends.
With nature.
With purpose.
Most importantly, with ourselves.
Perhaps that’s why some of our happiest childhood memories had nothing to do with screens. We could spend hours talking, playing, reading, or simply sitting together without feeling the need to document every moment.
Maybe what we’re searching for isn’t another reel.
Maybe we’re searching for a feeling that no algorithm can create.
A feeling of belonging.
Of peace.
Of being fully present.
The next time you instinctively reach for your phone, pause for just a moment.
Ask yourself:
“Am I looking for information… or am I looking for relief?”
That one question may change the way you use technology.
And perhaps, the way you understand yourself.
🌿 Reflection
Before opening social media today, take one deep breath and ask yourself:
“What do I really need right now—a distraction, or a meaningful moment?”
Sometimes, the answer isn’t on your screen.
It’s waiting in the world around you.
