The Story
The “Chhatron Ki Goonj” programme is scheduled to take place in the Bhawarkuan area of Indore, one of the city’s major student and education hubs. Considering the expected student turnout, traffic police have prepared a special movement plan for the area. The restrictions will remain in force from 1 PM on September 19 until the programme concludes. During this period, commuters should avoid entering the restricted stretches unless specifically permitted.
The main no-vehicle zone will cover the stretch from Bhawarkuan Square to Rajiv Gandhi Square via Bholaram Ustad Marg. Vehicle movement on this route will be restricted during the programme. Several categories of vehicles, including heavy vehicles, commercial vehicles, trucks, loading vehicles, city buses and other buses, will also face restrictions on selected connecting roads.
Vehicles approaching Indore from the Tejaji Nagar and Devguradia sides will face restrictions on entering the city through the affected routes. Commuters will therefore need to use the alternative routes announced by the traffic police. Traffic coming from areas such as Rau, Bijalpur and IT Park will also be diverted through designated alternative routes to prevent additional pressure around Bhawarkuan.
For commuters travelling towards the airport, alternative routes through areas including Palasia, Rajkumar Bridge and Marimata will be available. Travellers heading to the airport should allow additional travel time and check the route before starting their journey. Special parking arrangements have also been made at designated locations near the programme area. Visitors are advised to park only in the identified parking zones rather than leaving vehicles along the main roads.
Residents living around the affected area will also be required to follow the temporary traffic arrangements. This means some residents may need to use diversion routes to enter or exit their neighbourhoods during the restriction period.
The traffic restrictions are temporary and have been introduced primarily to ensure safe movement of students, pedestrians and vehicles during the programme.
For regular commuters, the simplest approach is to avoid the Bhawarkuan–Rajiv Gandhi Square stretch during the restriction period and plan an alternative route in advance.
