MP High Court Indore

⚡ The Gist

The Madhya Pradesh High Court’s Indore Bench records an assurance from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to make national highways pothole-free within three months. The commitment also covers repairs to damaged bridges, culverts and drainage systems.

The assurance comes during a hearing on a public interest litigation highlighting the poor condition of national highways and the safety risks faced by commuters. The court schedules the next hearing after three months to review progress on the promised repairs.

The Story

The public interest litigation, filed by Matru Foundation, raises concerns over potholes, uneven road surfaces, damaged bridges and culverts, and blocked drainage systems. It highlights how inadequate highway maintenance puts motorists at risk and increases the possibility of accidents, particularly when poor drainage worsens road conditions during rainfall.

During the hearing, NHAI assures the court that it will complete the necessary repairs within three months. The commitment covers potholes and uneven stretches, clogged drains, damaged culverts and deteriorating bridges.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Ravi Malimath and Justice Anil Verma takes the assurance on record. The court schedules the next hearing for three months later, when progress on the commitment is expected to come under review.

The deadline places responsibility on NHAI to address the identified infrastructure issues within the promised period. The outcome will depend on whether the repairs are completed on time and whether the improvements translate into safer, better-maintained highways for commuters.

🎙️ Indore Talk Take

A pothole-free highway is not merely about smoother travel, it is a matter of road safety and public accountability. With a three-month commitment now on record, the key question is whether commuters will see visible improvements on the ground.

Will this deadline finally bring safer highways, or will road users continue to navigate the same hazards?
