Indian Passport

If you’re planning to apply for a passport or renew your existing one, it may be wise to do it before July 1. The Central Government has revised passport fees across multiple categories, making new applications, renewals, and replacement services significantly more expensive.

The revised charges come after a gap of 14 years, following amendments to the Passport Rules, 1980. While the validity of passports remains unchanged, applicants will now have to budget more for passport-related services.

The fee for a 36-page ordinary passport will increase from ₹1,500 to ₹2,500, while the Tatkal fee will rise from ₹3,500 to ₹5,000. For those opting for a 60-page passport, the normal application fee will increase to ₹3,500, and the Tatkal fee will become ₹6,000.

The biggest impact will be on applicants who need to replace a lost or damaged passport. A replacement 36-page passport will now cost ₹5,000 under the normal process and ₹7,500 under Tatkal. For a 60-page passport, the replacement fee has been fixed at ₹6,000 for normal applications and ₹8,500 under the Tatkal category.

Parents should also note the revised charges for minors. If a child’s passport is lost or damaged, the replacement fee will be ₹4,250 under the normal process and ₹6,750 through Tatkal service.

Apart from passport issuance, the government has also increased fees for services such as Police Clearance Certificates (PCC) and Surrender Certificates.

The good news is that passport validity remains unchanged. Adult passports will continue to be valid for 10 years, while passports issued to minors will remain valid for five years or until the child turns 18 years of age, whichever comes first.

Revised Passport Fees at a Glance

  • 36-Page Passport: ₹2,500 (Normal) | ₹5,000 (Tatkal)
  • 60-Page Passport: ₹3,500 (Normal) | ₹6,000 (Tatkal)

For frequent travelers, students planning to study abroad, professionals with international assignments, and families preparing for overseas vacations, applying before the revised fee structure comes into effect could help save a considerable amount.
