Organ Donation

Beyond its reputation as India’s cleanest city, Indore is steadily building another identity—one of compassion, awareness, and life-saving generosity through organ and tissue donation.

The city created its first Green Corridor in 2015, enabling the rapid transportation of donated organs for transplantation. Since then, 67 Green Corridors have been successfully established, helping save countless lives by ensuring organs reach recipients within critical time limits.

Indore has also become a national leader in tissue donation. The city currently ranks second in India in skin donation, reflecting growing public awareness about the importance of donating tissues after death.

The numbers tell a remarkable story. In 2024, Indore recorded 2,237 eye donations, a figure that increased to 2,748 in 2025. Supporting this effort are the city’s three eye banks, which continue to play a vital role in restoring vision to those in need.

Similarly, permissions for organ donation have witnessed significant growth. While 135 organ donation approvals were issued in 2024, the number rose to 202 in 2025, highlighting increasing acceptance of organ donation among citizens.

Medical experts explain that a person can donate blood, bone marrow, liver, and kidneys during their lifetime. After cardiac death, tissues such as eyes, skin, bones, and heart valves can be donated. In cases where a person is declared brain dead, life-saving organs including the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, pancreas, small intestine, hands, bones, and heart valves can be donated to help multiple recipients.

As awareness continues to grow, Indore’s organ donation movement is proving that even after life ends, the gift of life can continue for others.

Would you consider pledging your organs and tissues to help save lives? One donor can transform the future of several families.
